Giveaway!!!

Okay, so to celebrate both the first month of my blog and passing the 10,000 hits mark I am hosting a giveaway. I am making each entry a comment because I really want to make sure that all my readers are getting what they want.

There will be two winners, each of which will win: 1 “Pretty Cheep” project bag, 1 skein of sock yarn either Malabrigo or Araucania, 1  travel size tube of ‘Udder Cream’ (a fabulous moisturizer), 2 iron on customizable ‘handmade’ labels, 1 lantern moon notebook and 4 knit and crochet stitch markers. All of these things with the exception of the stitch markers I made are purchased from my LYS The Village Knitter. (Thank you, Karen!)

Here’s a picture of both prize kits

What do you have to do? Leave me a comment, anywhere on the site telling me one of two things:

1.) A pattern you would like to see me make. I will soon be putting some not-free patterns up so this one comes with a bonus. If you tell me an idea that I then use, I will send you a copy of the pattern, even if I am not posting it free. So come on, make me your own personal knit/crochet designer; I dare you!

2.) Tell me about what you like or dislike about my blog, what you would keep, what you would change. Please use some tact, but I really do have a thick skin and I love constructive criticism. My sister just got Dreamweaver and she will be helping me overhaul the whole site, so let me know!

Now, if you happen to be in a chatty mood, and  would like to comment on both these things, then you have made 2 entries and I will count it as such. I will announce both winners next Sunday July 5th, so you have a week to enter.

To recap:

Leave a comment anywhere on my site to get a chance at one of the goodie bags pictured above. Comment on the site or on a pattern idea for one entry and comment on both for 2 entries. The winner will be announced July 5th.

Thank you all again, and I can’t wait to see what you have to say.

  1. vickie Says:

I would like to see a long sleeve shrug with a cabled band at the end of the sleeves. I think it would be awesome to see that and for it to be an easy knit.

    • Rachel Says:

I totally endorse Vicky’s idea have been all over ravelry trying to find a long sleeve shrug that a newbe can do – and havn’t come up with anything yet. It’s my first month knitting, so please, give me something easy!

  2. Amy Says:

I’d love to see a lacy shawl pattern that can be made with the sock yarn weight yarn – malabrigo or araucania are both fabulous yarns, and that would just be awesome (and i’ve made about 15 lace shawls so far, and am completely hooked!)

  3. Twizzler on Ravelry Says:

Make a unique unisex messenger style bag (that can also be used as a knitter’s project bag)

  4. Mary Says:

How about making a Spanish Dancer shawl with varrigated yarn?

  5. Tia Says:

I’d like to see ANYONE knit the Here Be Dragone shawl. 🙂

About the site – maybe tone the colors down a touch. I keep thinking “That 70’s Show” when I see the banner. But, maybe you like that! 😀

  6. Pam Says:

I think the site has good content. You might think about rearranging the links in the right column so your categories and twitter feed are near the top and links to stores and other bloggers are further down the page. That way it’s easier for your readers to find what they are looking for. It might also be good to include a more prominent link to your Etsy shop.

  7. sciteacher Says:

    Congratulation on 10,000 hits!

I love the way your blog is set up and wouldn’t change a thing. It’s organized, you can easily move around or find areas you’re interested in, it has enough white space, and is set up to make things quick and painless even for people still on dial-up ~ It’s great the way it is, really!

I’d like to see a lacy knit pattern for a fingerless glove designed with the new knitter in mind.

  8. Cindy Says:

I would like to see a drawstring project bag that incorporates a few different stitches. I really liked learning about the charts for lace, but couldn’t enlarge the examples to view them better.

  9. quinn Says:

    1) socks!

    2) I like the Tuesday Tip idea – it’s good to have something that will become a reason to visit weekly, even if my blogs-to-read start piling up on me 🙂

  10. Anonymous Says:

I like the blog, my only suggestion would be to make the banner a bit smaller, it seems to take up so much of my screen! (Of course, this could just be me…)

Hmm, the pattern I’ve been looking everywhere for is a v-neck sweater, ribbed, w/cable along the center front & sleeves. 😉

    Those bags are awesome!

    • Amy Says:

dear anonymous – I have a free pattern thats a v-neck sweater, cable up the center and up the sleeves, with a little bit of laciness as well, done in fingering weight. if you’re on ravelry, I’m PugUgly – drop me a line and I”ll be happy to share it with you (it’s in my projects on there, as well)

  11. leeann Says:

The bags in the pictures are awesome!

  12. Kenyetta Says:

I would like to see bag or hat patterns.
Congrats on the 10,00th hit! Wow!

  13. Kenyetta Says:

I love the blog, I would only change the right sidebar. I would put your about at the top, then the twitter and categories then the blogs. I agree with Pam, a link for your etsy shop

  14. Caleb Says:

I like your blog it is very structured and well organized. Also congrats on the 10,000 hits. The only thing that I might change about your blog is color. It lacks a litte umph that catches people’s eyes or makes them look. :o)

  15. Julie Says:

I love the color scheme of your banner on your site but I would like to see a bit more “activity” or color or things to draw the eye in. Not too much but enough to interest me. Sorry if that’s too vague.

    And….

I would love to see you design a vest – one that isn’t too big on the shoulders so that you’d need shoulder pads to wear it, and there would be ribbing around the v neck and around the shoulders. I’ve attempted to make them and seem to get the shoulders too big and they are missing shaping. I am not good at revising patterns myself, other than really simple things so a vest that was designed with shaping and shoulders like I’ve described would be grand!

    Congratulations on your blog.

  16. Bethany Says:

I really like how simple your site looks. It’s not overly cluttered with buttons everywhere.

I’d like to see a purse with organizing pockets inside so everything doesn’t slide around.

  17. Jen Says:

How fun – this is a nice giveaway!

    1) How about a tank top or shell that is designed to flatter big chests (i.e., instructions on short-row shaping built in to the pattern)? I have been too intimidated to try altering patterns without the shaping info.

    2) Your site is nice! But… I agree with Julie (above) that there could be more color to draw the eye. If I were changing the site, I would get rid of the grey border and the white box in the middle, have the banner at the top extend all the way across, and maybe visually separate the main column from the side column somehow. Also, in the banner, the background is fairly simple, and it could be more subtlely interesting, which would give the site a more professional look.

  18. skeinraveller Says:

I love your blog – I’m just setting up my own so I’m really interested in seeing what other people have done.

The pattern I want to see most is a biiiiig request but here goes – I’ve been trying to find a good top-down raglan sweater pattern I can knit for my partner. I’ve seen some but the ‘crew neck’ on them looks like it’s trying to strangle someone so I want one with a bit of a ‘drop’ so a ribbed band can be added on at the end.

Maybe I need to get my designing head on and try it myself but any help would be appreciated. Thank you and lots of kisses 🙂

  19. moonhonu Says:

hi there, i have surfed around your blog a bit and do not see anything i would change. Congrats on your hits number!!

I would knit a great hoodie type sweater, something for any casual day when you just want to throw on a comfy something. Maybe a few cables around the hood, neckline, or down the arms.

  20. Amy in TX Says:

Love the blog! I am also bi-stitchual so I appreciate that you cover both topics. Your layout is nice and clean, VERY easy to read. Your reviews and recommendations are thoughtful and well-written; I feel like they give a lot of information without being too wordy.

I think you could add some more content to the sidebars but I think it’s also a slippery slope. Many blogs I read have sidebars that are so long and cluttered with information that it’s impossible to find what you are looking for.

As far as patterns, I would love to see items using both knitting and crochet, more than just a knitted item with a single crochet border. I am also currently drawn to shawls/wraps crocheted in laceweight yarn, or maybe something in sock weight yarn besides socks or baby stuff.

I’ll be adding you to my list of blogs I follow. Great blog!

  21. StephCat Says:

Nice blog! It reads like a news feed of sorts, lots of tidbits of info.

  22. StephCat Says:

oh – design idea — some sort of fitted colorwork hoodie? just tossing it out there as something that might be fun to design.

  23. Lauria Says:

July 5th is my birthday, so this would make the perfect birthday present!

Something to improve upon: A link to comments would be really helpful. It took me a little while to figure out where I should click to get to the comment page, but eventually realized that I should click on the title of the post. I like your graphic at the top of the page, but maybe there could be a little more color in the blog to attract the eye? I also think you should have a link to your designs on the website. I went to Ravelry to check out what you’ve made so far so I could say what I’d like to see you make.

I would like to see you design a pair of crocheted fingerless mitts! I love fingerless mitts and am always looking for nice crocheted pairs.

Good luck on your giveaway and congrats on the hits!

  24. FalconDance Says:

There are *so* many shawl patterns which are beautiful but a little daunting for new knitters (or crocheters). Perhaps a stole that may look complicated but really isn’t ;).

  25. FalconDance Says:

I love the way you’ve gathered giveaways and such into one spot with links, plus a tiny write-up (which is very helpful). Reviews in general are great; you write clearly yet enthusiastically. Refreshing, actually. It would be nice to have more of a side bar for ‘skipping’ through to desired posts rather than using the backspace for another post, though.

  26. Laura (Laurita on Ravelry) Says:

    Mmmmmmmm lovely bags!!

Here’s my #1 entry: What patter would I like to see? Hum… I’d love a ribbed turtleneck sweater with cabled sleeves. Or maybe a triangular lacey shawl knitted with that gorgeous deep purple yarn.

    Congrats!

  27. Josie Says:

I am addicted to lace..so, a shawl/wrap/stole/scarf in lace will make me look forward to the pattern.

Maybe , you can make your blog in pleasing colors with lotsa yummy yarn pictures!
I love a blog with good photography..

  28. cabrita Says:

What I like about the site is your writing. you form clear, coherent sentences and get your point across well. I would like to see more use of your sidebars for things like recent blog post links and possibly projects.

As for patterns, I’ve been looking for a super-cute beret w/ a brim or a messenger bag, if that’s anything you’re interested in tackling!

  29. Laura (Laurita on Ravelry) Says:

    And here’s my entry #2:
What to change from the blog? Well, generally I like the design. It’s clean and easy to the eye. Maybe, like others said before, I’ll add a link to the coments on the posts. And a link somewhere (the sidebar, maybe) to your patterns will be great and useful.

    Congrats again!! 😀

  30. Sandyhook Says:

Thanks for sharing about your contest! I have Dreamweaver and its an excellent program. That along with Fireworks is a great web page creating team. Good luck with your revamping!

I like patterns for accessories….bags especially. I also like wearable pattens that are made of lighter yarns, since I am always hot. (menopause can be tough. :)) And continue to divide time on your blog between knitting and crochet evenly.

I like to share links of blogs that arent by especially well known people….other crocheters I have met online through my blog. Everyone deserves a little recognition. Consider joining a blog ring 🙂

    Continued success with your blog!

    Sandy

  31. Becky Says:

I would love to see a toddler vest designed for a boy. Most of the patterns out there are way too girly or don’t actually fit a toddler.

  32. BedAndEcky Says:

    Congrates!

I would love to see sock patterns (wow, I’m on a sock kick!)

I like the weekly giveaway list. Nice to not have to search for them 🙂

  33. Camilla Alma Says:

I would love to see a lacy sock pattern incorporating both knitting and crochet – and you appear to master both.
As for your website I would like a link section just for your patterns so they’re easier to find.

  34. yarnvixen Says:

Twizzler is right on with the messenger bag suggestion – I’d like it to be felted. I enjoy your site very much because I see lots of news info and ideas here. I appreciate the free patterns you share.

  35. Kat Says:

I’d love to see chic crocheted sweaters – form fitting, interesting stitch patterns, etc.

  36. vaj4bratz Says:

Hi, I like your site the way it is, although I agree that the banner could be toned down a bit. As for a pattern, I’d like to see some of those amigani toys that can be knitted.

    Thanks

  37. Rachel Says:

I’d love to see some patterns that incorporate both knitting and crochet! I like both, and think they work well together, and they’re aren’t many designers that can work in both.

As for your site, I think the header could be a little more professional looking.

    Thanks for the giveaway!

  38. tpop Says:

Maybe some more photos or graphics? It’s a little plain…but interesting!

  39. beankendall Says:

I really like that you have added pictures to the newer posts. it breaks up the witeness of the page. I have a problems with really white pages. but other than that your page is lovely. ~Beankendall on rav

  40. Puglette Says:

hi, i found your giveaway on ravelry!

i would love a pattern similar to the sweetheart scarf in crochet. it’s just beautiful and the way you have it draped is so pretty.

your site is nice, but a wee bit plain. maybe you need a pug photo or two! ;o) honestly, i really think your site is doing well, 10,000 hits is awesome and you must be doing something right! personallyi would love to have the type a bit larger, but that’s just because i am old and have fading eyes.
    keep up the great work!
    hugs,
    puglette
    :o)

  41. kerry Says:

    1) I would love to see a pattern for crocheted toeless spa socks, made from either bamboo or a bamboo/cotton blend. Something to put on when you’ve just gotten out of the bu and have lotion on your heels and want it to stay there. Something with elasticity (so it would have to like be a nylon/elastic blend, I suppose) that is soft and comfy. Something that can be worn lounging or to bed, or even with flip-flops/sandals (I’m in FL – we were those year round!).

    2) Your site is nice as it is, but were I the webmaster, I would widen the page so that there’s not blank gray space on either side. No need to fill it up with tons of stuff, but extend what’s existing to fit the browser window. Your font is good – nice and clear, easy on the eyes. Adding a little more color/graphic could be a good thing, too.

    Hope this helps!

  42. Jennifer Says:

    1. If your posted designs are any indication, you have a great color aesthetic. I’d love to see a design that uses that in a fun way–maybe some entrelac or “fake isle”.

    2. The magazine reviews are a great idea–it’s good to see what exactly is *in* those magazines before running out to see for yourself–and I like “Deals, Steals and Giveaways”. Fiber Artist Friday is less interesting to me, but that may just be my taste.

    You are so prolific! Brava.

  43. Marie Says:

I think your blog is nifty keen. 🙂 I especially like the Fiber Artist Friday. It’s always nice to learn about people involved in Fiber.
I do think you could add a little color to the site- maybe some pictures on the side of your projects. Love your drink cozy, especially the handles.
(July 5th is my birthday – even if I don’t win, I’ll be happy thinking of someone else getting a nifty present.) (I’m spending the day at Disneyland since they let me in free on my birthday this year)
    Marie

  44. Michelle Says:

I’m just finding your blog and it’s really nice. I’m glad you include crochet in it.

I’d like to see handbag patterns in both knit and crochet.

    Congratulations on your blog success!

  45. Sunday Soundbyte « Hook and Needle Girl Says:

[…] Hook and Needle Girl On hooks, needles and (the best of all) YARN! « Giveaway!!! […]

  46. Susan Says:

I’ve just discovered your blog — I’m finding it well-organized and easy to navigate through!

Have you seen the Aestlight Shawl yet? Lovely, with lots of garter stitch to keep it relaxing and mellow, and enough lacy bits to keep it interesting!

  47. Carmen Says:

I love toys/amigurumi and would especially love to see a cute mouse pattern.

  48. Carolyn Ross Says:

I found your site through the post on Ravelry too. I really like how you have it set up – and your green/purple color combination on the title is one of my favorites. 🙂
The themed days work very well. If I could make one suggestion it would be to archive your older messages according to the themes especially the reviews, profiles, and patterns.

  49. Hannahbelle Says:

I like your layout, but I would say that it’s a little simple for me! WordPress really allows you to customize when you have more than their standard account, and I’d like to see that. Maybe some light-up links, a background pattern that really expresses you, and a new banner?

Congratulations on having 10,000 hits on your blog, and in only one month! I just realized that I forgot my blogeversary again (for the second year in a row), so there will be a big blowout next year!

  50. mapriceonrav Says:

I would love to see a messenger bag with some inner pockets.

I love the great photos you share on the blog.

  51. share Says:

    Congrats on the hits! 😀

I’ve just recently been bitten by the lace bug, but don’t really wear shawls myself…how about something rectangular but still with the gorgeous lacey feel of the triangular shawls? I’ve seen lots of rectangular wraps on Rav, but most seem to have more dense patterning than the triangular shaped ones.

As for the blog, with 10,000 hits, I’d say you’re doing stuff right. The only thing I’d say is that the low contrast between the background color and the page color can be a little hard on the eyes…at least for some of us. 😉

  52. Marsha Says:

I have snooped around this blog so many times and now I just HAVE to leave a comment. 🙂
    Congrats on the hits!

Actually I would love to see a couple of things. First a long sleeved shrug, with a really long reaching back like past the waist but not as long as a shawl would fall. It would be wonderful if about half way down the sleeves would begin to really bell out in a lace pattern. Maybe a bit of a foldover shawl like collar that is also in the lace pattern of the sleeves.

Next I would love to see is a tank top that has a cap on the sleeve. I hope that made sense. And maybe just a bit below the midriff area a bit of openwork or laciness.

And please, if you do either of these would you please also include plus sises not just toothpick model sizes.

I know, easy for me to say. I’m not a designer I’m just a fabricator. It keeps me sane.

  53. stitchcat Says:

I like your blog just fine as it is.

As for a design idea, I’d appreciate an easy-fit plus-size top. Nothing lacy, just a comfy everyday type of thing with a simple neckline & a choice of short or long sleeves.

  54. MARLENE Says:

I’d like to see some pretty legwarmers with a bit of lace on the top and a matching shrug for a child in school age sizes. I cannot find anything I really love for my granddaughter. She is girly and everything is so plain.

  55. MARLENE Says:

Oh shoot i could have replied about your blog on my comment about the pattern. well, I would like a little more bling on here. A little pizzazz, some bright colors, some fun fonts and some cute pics. What do I know, just liven it up. Thanks

  56. KimnCocoa Says:

This will sound silly but I am already thinking of Xmas gifts. I would love a nice wine bottle cover/gift bag. Or (I have seen very few NICE ones) a washcloth/spa cloth/soap holder etc set. One that is elegant not just “cutsy.”

  57. Laurpud Says:

I would love to see purse patterns, simple AND complex, big & little. Especially that can be altered by changing yarn/hook/needle sizes, as I am bi-stitchual too! 🙂
For the blog, I hate to sound ‘old lady’, but how about a bigger font & brighter colors?
Oooo & I like STITCHCAT’s idea, too! I guess I’m not the only plus-size after all.

  58. oriocookie on ravelry Says:

I think that you website rocks. As for a pattern, I know they make bags to hold crochet hooks and bags to hold needles, but what about a bag to hold both. A pattern that is expandable based on what is needed. (ie, pattern could hold just hooks, or needles, or both, and can be expanded from say 6 up to 20 spots to put them.) Does that make sense?

  59. Leslie Says:

I’d like to see another lacy shawl made of sock wool and I’d like to see you fix your banner so the tops of the letters show in the background color. And I’d really like to have your savvy about how to make a website work so well. Can you make a pattern for that???? (grin)

  60. mikitta Says:

I enjoyed visiting your blog, espeically the bits you do about other designers. Very nice 🙂

As for projects – it would be nice to see a casual sweater for fall – not too lacy, not too thick 🙂

    God Bless,
    mik

  61. April Says:

Great site- I would really enjoy seeing a pattern for some patterns using sock yarn that aren’t socks! Thank you!

  62. larndt Says:

I would love to see a pattern that flatters the less well-endowed but not necessarily skinny amongst us. The website is good. More color to catch the eye.

  63. Kristy Says:

I really like your website, it has a nice mix of info, education and pretties! Thanks for sharing it! I would love to see you design something pretty that is crocheted in sock yarn. Everyone thinks it has to be knitted to be really beautiful but I (as a crocheter) disagree. I think crochet is beautiful. Thanks!

  64. AndreaLea Says:

    Whoa!! Crazy good giveaway!

I would like to see a nice, cropped, short sleeve cardigan type thing. I say this rather than shrug as I don’t think most shrug sort of things fit nicely around the shoulder and back are. 😀

  65. Jim Says:

I’d like to see a nice man’s project that isn’t yet another pair of socks, a dull sweater, yawnish hat or another ubiqutious cabled cardigan. Us knitting guys keep getting the short end of the stick! Either something with color or something with character! Or…perhaps. A subversive bit of lace?

Also, LOVE your content…but maybe tone down the upper logo? It’s a wee bit hard to read (looks like the letters are being eaten alive by the upper edge, and the colors are eyepopping!)

  66. Elizabeth Turney Says:

I liked the layout. The banner at the top has the top of the letters cut off…that bothered my a little…I would a pattern for a top that is hippie styled, loose and flowing, maybe that ties in the back…

  67. Claire Says:

Congrats on the 10,000 hits! It also looks like you’re getting another 10,000 hits with the yummy freebies you’re giving away. =D

Free Pattern Idea: small crocheted pouch. I’ve been looking for an easy, fast pattern for this for a long time — something I can give away to a lot of people.

Blog Feedback: great content, bare display (your blog could use a little color contrast)… =D

  68. Bethany (yarnorgy) Says:

Congrats on the success of your Blog! Your site looks clean & uncomplicated! Very Nice!
    Pattern idea= how about mittens?

  69. NCKnit Says:

Cool blog! Saw your link on Ravelry. The pattern I would like to see is a knitted, nicely cabled hat/scarf in one, kinda like a baklava(I think that is the word I am looking for).

  70. Brenna Says:

Terrific Blog and what a wonderful idea to celebrate with! I’ll certainly be tuning in frequently!

  71. Kellie Says:

I would love to see knit and crochet combined in socks. I’m a sock knitter (been crocheting longer, but haven’t done socks) and think combining the two could result in some neat results.

Personally I like the blog as is. Maybe move the comment area to the top of the comments. But that could be my laziness speaking 🙂 I think it looks great though, nice and clean and it fits the overall theme of the blog well.

  72. Lisa Says:

Hi there, I like your blog, your logo is cool and I love the catergories and things like book reviews etc. Love reading it.

  73. Nicki Says:

Hello! Congrats on 10,000 hits! I like the blog the way it is. It’s simple, but still nice.

I would also like a pattern for toe-less socks to wear with sandals (I also live in Florida).

  74. nicolaknits Says:

Hi, I just came over here from Ravelry. I can’t really answer the pattern question, as I’m new to you and your blog. I notice that the About page hasn’t been updated – I’d like to know something about you when I read your posts. And the heading, while colourful, cuts off the top of the text, which for some reason bugs me! Apart from that, I like that the text is easily readable (if a bit small for my 40-something eyes) and you write well (good grammar and spelling).

  75. nicolaknits Says:

  76. GaiaDea Says:

    Hi! Love the site!
I’d like to see a navigation box of links to different pages/sections on the side of every page of the blog. I think that would make it a little more user-friendly overall. That’s the only issue I see, although another poster mentioned format issues which may be related to browser translation (I use Firefox and have no troubles in display).

As far as patterns go, I’d love to see you design a lace top for larger-breasted ladies, like in the US E-G cup range. Tall order, I know, as the increase/decrease parts can be mighty fiddly with that sort of proportion, yet I’d like to see something elegant and classy in that direction. I believe there is a huge market for patterns that flatter those who wear a cup size larger than a B, which is what most clothing proportions seem to be designed to fit and flatter properly. Thanks for listening, and thanks for the opportunity to enter your giveaway!!

  77. Smurf Says:

Congratulations on reaching 10K – quite a milestone! I love that your blog is unashamedly bi-stitchual – while I still prefer crochet to knitting, I do a bit of both and it’s nice to see a site that combines the two.

I like that your blog is clean and uncomplicated – nothing annoys me more than flashing bling-y type sites 😉 One thing I did notice is I’m only seeing the bottom 2/3 of your banner – for some reason the top bit is just plain purple. Maybe it’s just my browser, it’s been a bit wonky this week.

What to design … I’d love to see a lacy crochet shawl in the style of some of the popular knitted designs (Swallowtail, Ishbel, etc) – or a pair of crocheted socks that dispels the myth of “crocheted socks = slippers”. Looking forward to seeing what you come up with!

  78. MariesNiece Says:

Hmm, comment #1 … how do I get to your “home” page from here? Link to here was from Ravelry.

Pattern request … I’ve been looking for a pattern to make a project bag, various sizes, that won’t bore me before I finish it.

    Thanks!

I like the way you blog looks. However, I am not a blog expert by any means. But it took me a few to figure out how to navigate. Is the only way to see other posts is to click on the arrows next to the title? How do I see the patterns you have made?

  80. yarnwrangler Says:

I would love to see some little baby girl dresses and frilly socks to go with it!!

  81. Julie Says:

I would love to see some sort of mother/daughter design for an older child…maybe in a shell and cardigan or just a cute sweater. My daughter is 9 and all of the cute mama/daughter things are for kids who are much younger.

  82. Julie Says:

I love your Fiber Artist Fridays and your book reviews. I would love to see a list of posts on the side for easy navagation. I would also like to see a link to your Ravelry I.D. or a homepage.
All in all, a pretty fabulous site.

  83. Helen Says:

since i love amigurumi, i’d like to see a good australian bearded dragon pattern!! i have one of these live and think they are the coolest lizards..

  84. knittingbunnymum Says:

The site looks great. A suggestion maybe would be for a little more colour. Let me see, for a pattern, I would LOVE to see something for kids between the age of 4 -10. There’s not alot of great stuff for this age group. Boys and girls. 🙂

    -Sarah

  85. Jennifer Says:

You have a great blog! I really like your reviews and think the rating system is so cute!

  86. Jennifer Says:

Since you’re the hook and needle girl, maybe you could design a pattern that incorporates both of these crafts.

  87. allena Says:

ok so i’m entering to win. what a great prize.
1: i’d love to see something wearable, a sweater that’s femine. though i’m partial to bags and socks too so i’d be happy with anything.
2: i like your site! i really really really like the reviews. i know that doesn’t help with your updating but i just wanted to say keepit up!

  88. KJo Says:

I think a knit fingerless glove pattern, with a thorn intarsia around the arm would be really cool. Kind of like a tattoo sleeve thing I guess…lol
    KJo

  89. Wendy McElroy Says:

I’m a first time visitor, I’ll admit your contest brought me here 😉 I do like your site, nicely laid out.

I’m always eager for more quick and simple giftable patterns. I knit mostly for gifts and babies, so those are the areas I like to see new stuff. Patterns that can be done with one or two skeins are especially cool, since we all have that awful habit of buying just a skein or two of a yarn to try it out!

  90. Tracy Workman Says:

Congratulations! You have a lovely site! I’m looking for a dressed-up top down raglan. I love the construction of a raglan, but I want one that has a little something more flair.

  91. Kristen Says:

I’d love to see a rectangular knitted shawl pattern. I prefer rectangles to triangles and am always looking for something fun and new.

And I think you should make the dimensions of your text field a little wider. There is too much gray border and it looks a little barren/blah. But that’s just cosmetic. I like the “yarn ball rating system” you use!

  92. Siobhan Says:

Thanks for doing this give away, and for mentioning it in the CLF group on Ravelry. Had you not done so, I never would have found your blog, which I’m really enjoying. I’m really impressed with this site and can’t think of anything you should change, so I’ll just stick to mentioning some of the things I like. The reviews of current magazines are a great idea. I’ll be sure to check here in the future so I know what to hunt down each month. Thanks!

  93. Siobhan Says:

Oh! As for patterns, I’d like a sleeveless summer top made in an interesting crochet stitch. I keep thinking of something using Catherine’s Wheel, but I can’t figure out how to do it.

  94. Melinda Says:

I have 220 yards of dk weight yarn of a beautiful bamboo and silk blend that I need a pattern for. I am a bit tired of scarves but a cowl pattern or mini shawl/kerchief would be ideal.

Thanks for the giveaway! Fingers crossed!

  95. summerdae Says:

I love your Tuesday Tips-so please don’t change that!!!

I would like to see a summery knit tank or top that’s stylish and flatters many. It’s hot in Florida so summer knits would be lovely!

  96. knittingdancer Says:

I would like a schrug that fits more on the shoulder and don’t feel like it is falling off all the time. My back gets cold in the library where my knitting circle meets. I made the Modesty Schrug a free pattern from Knittingpatternscentral.com and I have to keep pulling it up around my shoulders.

  97. KPP Says:

I like things with cables! Uh, that’s pretty general, isn’t it?

As to your site, I think that’s its pretty straightforward and easy to read. Black on white text is always my favorite. Maybe some more images to go with your postings?

  98. Donna B. Says:

Fantastic giveaway, so thank you and congratulations! I’d like to see a more professional-looking banner on the site. The one you have sort of screams mid-nineties to me. 🙂 I think you have a way with texture, so I’d love to see scarf and wrap patterns that play to that strength. How about a scarf with some variation in width, a serrated feel?

  99. Lynn Says:

I would love to see a sideways knit hat with some lace or cables that can either be made beanie style or one of the slouchier styles.

I like the blog overall, including the colors and size of the banner–not too big at all on my 20″ monitor 🙂 I would like to see a little color on the side bars instead of all the lt grey but I do understand it is a restful color for the eyes.

    Lynn

  100. Ivy Says:

What I’d like to see–a sock pattern that is pure geekiness. Something based on a great fantasy or SF novel.

What I don’t like–the automatically generated links. They’re always so odd. I dislike those on any blogs. Otherwise, I think your blog is fabulous.

  101. khadija Says:

I would love to find a pattern for a pair of knitted socks that allowed for a set of initals at the ankle. That is a nice pair of men’s dress socks with small initials. Also a pattern so I could make a matching pair for my son, and his 4 year old and 6 month old.
As for the blog, some side colors or links would be nice.

  102. harddaysknit Says:

I would love to see some fair isle socks! I’m planning on making some soon and need inspiration!

  103. Betty C. Says:

Love the giveway goodies. I especially like the bags. Think the header on your site is a little 80ish. Would prefer to see something less bright. More about you at the top.

  104. PeeOui Says:

I would love to see something fun and colorful for babies!
I enjoyed your Welcome to the Week things on Monday – ended up looking at that for a while and almost forgot about the contest!
    Thanks for the fun!!

  105. Michelle O. Says:

1 – Would love to see a messenger bag too.

2 – The banner is a little bright for me, and big. I’d love to see the background in a soft color other than grey.

  106. Stephanie Says:

I would like a crocheted sweater/top/ dress that fits large-busted, slightly chubby gals like me. Most of the patterns I’ve seen are very beautiful, but only on gals who aren’t lumpy. So if I were pattern wishing, I’d pick something flattering for my body shape.

I like your website. It’s clean, tidy and easy to read. The links to your previous post and next post are a little confusing when you use long titles because they bunch together in the middle. Could you use a couple of lines to make it more compact? also, if I want to jump a couple of posts, I’d have to flip through them. I think an index/archive or something like that could be helpful.

  107. Donna Says:

Great contest! Thanks for sharing info about it. Otherwise, I’d not have found your site.

What would I like to see you design? I’m always on the look out for summery tops–short sleeve or sleevless that can be worn with a bra without the straps showing. If the tops are seamless or require minimal seaming, even better.

What do I like about your blog? I like the “clean” layout. It’s easy to navigate, easy to find things. Blogs that are too “busy” are frustrating. I like the clean, simple lines of yours.

  108. goodbyekitty2007 Says:

I like your blog a lot, especially the weekly features – and congrats for keeping it up! I’ve had problems with the site previews in my browser though, and it took a few tries to turn them off. Maybe make those more user-friendly? An index would also be good, maybe under the feature headings / days of the week.

As for patterns, I’m going to second what some other people have said about bags – I would really like to see a nice sturdy knitted or crocheted bag for everyday use!

    Happy blogging 🙂

  109. busyknittinmom Says:

I would like to see a man’s cardigan sweater. My husband wants one but can’t find one he likes.

  110. Debi Says:

Congrats on blogging to this point. I am impressed you have gotten that far. So that is what I do like is you keep at it.

A pattern I would like to see would be a large felted baseball bag. Complete with bats and balls.

    Congrats again,

    Debi

  111. Possum of the Grotto Says:

Congrats on the blogging! I think the thing I’d like to see on your blog is an archive or index of some type. I like looking back at past posts when I find a new blog to read.

As for patterns….lace is always good 🙂 I also like seeing sweaters with classic styling. Something that won’t go out of style in a year or two. It takes me forever to knit a sweater, so I want it to last!

  112. knitkittenblue Says:

    1) I’d also like a nice tank like Jen suggested (How about a tank top or shell that is designed to flatter big chests). I’m large chested, but not a big girl, so these are hard to find. Lots of patterns for big girls or skinny girls, but not normal sized girls with large chests.

    2) I agree with many who say that your banner is too large. The page itself could use a little more color. I do like the fact that you have multiple themes for the days.

I do love the prizes. I hope I win!

  113. vanessa Says:

Love the site. The sales, the reviews…. It’s great! I love links to other blog sites as well.

As for pattern ideas – I’m always looking for patterns that work well with handspun yarn.

  114. Jackie Says:

I’d love to see a lace project with sock weight yarn!

As far as your website goes, there seems to be a lot of dead space (I popped over directly to this page). Is there any place I can see all your posts. Or do I have to scroll one by one?

  115. Teresa Says:

I’ve just found your blog and think it’s quite nice. I like the reviews of books, mags, etc. Pattern reviews – or discussions of patterns you’ve knit/crochet would be great. I’m always looking for what people who have finished a project I’m thinking about starting have to say. As for patterns to create, we need attractive patterns for the average woman – not those that only look good on skinny models!

  116. VandalSquirrel on ravelry Says:

I’d love a hybrid pattern, say for a baby blanket, wash or dish cloth, pillow that incorporated crochet and knitting. I’m making one up now, but I wouldn’t mind one for the future.

The purple and green colors of the logo are really hard on my eyes. Maybe a different color scheme would work better.

  117. Peachy Says:

Congrats on your 1 month and 10,000 hit milestone! I will comment on question #2. ^^

I like the cleanliness of your blog design. I would recommend making it wider. On my 17″ screen it takes up about 60% of the available space width wise. I’d say just make it a bit wider. Or you might shrink some of the margin space. That will be more helpful.

    Keep up the good work!

  118. ravenm Says:

    Thank you for this contest.

For a pattern, I’d love to see a simple (both in appearance and to make), preferably one-piece (none of that “make this sleeve, then that sleeve, then the back; then attach” stuff) shrug that can be made for ANY size. I get indescribably tired of seeing “plus-size” patterns that barely reach size 12, let alone a size that might fit anyone who’s truly plus-sized.

More than a pattern, though, I would love to hear — straight from the mouth/keyboard of a designer — how to figure crochet math. I’ve been crocheting for years, and I have yet to find solid information about how designers figure out (without crocheting and then frogging the same starting chain a million times) how many chain stitches they need when creating, say, an afghan. Yes, I can figure some basic multiples, but not without either a pattern or by constantly estimating and then frogging until I land on the right number. I tend to be very good with numbers, but whatever the key to crochet math is, it’s escaped me.

  119. Tammy Says:

I would love to see patterns that use sock yarn, though not necessarily socks. I’d even be willing to pay for a pretty shawl using sock yarn, especially a lace pattern.

  120. Carmelvineyard Says:

Thank you for posting this over at the CLF! I saw this one post there and am looking forward to reading the rest of your site.

So, let’s talk site first. Specifically first impressions: it’s a big, bright banner and does not look overly professional. I like your yarn ball with needles and hook, and I like the font used. All that really needs to happen is to take out the burst behind the “and”- that dates the banner more than anything else- make the colors a little darker, and make the whole thing a little smaller. (I am using a Dell Mini 9, and I get all of three lines of text before having to Page Down.) The words under the blog title are not needed, but they are not bringing things down much either. I would still remove them in the interest of simplicity. Many have pointed out the simplicity of design, and I like this too. I also like that the text box was white and bordered by a solid color (not ads, not text, not links, not pictures). However, well before the end of all the comments before me, I was no longer seeing the grey and it all looked white. My recommendation is to keep the color border, but make it a darker shade than this- moderate to dark- in a neutral (and grey is neutral) or a color used in your theme (the purple or green in this case, but still darker than in your logo).

Patterns? I am a pretty new self-taught crocheter. There is this rectangular shawl I am working on (this is my Ravelry name too, and this is in my projects under Openwork Project, I think), and would love advice on. (First shawl, first openwork… you get the idea.) Otherwise, all I can do is fifteenth requests for patterns that flatter larger chests and larger torsos (when you are at 18-20, 12 is NOT plus size!) and sweaters for kids over 5 and boys at any age, especially in crochet!

  121. ikkinlala Says:

    Congratulations on the milestones!

In general I like your blog, but one thing I’d change about it is the amount of empty space in the margins. It’s easier on the eyes if there’s some space, but on my computer it looks like there’s more empty space than writing and that means I have to scroll more often.

  122. Rena Jones Says:

I have to agree that I think there is too much white space, especially by the comments.

  123. syeda iffat sultana Says:

I like socks pattern and congrates to hit milestone.

  124. Eileen Says:

I like the blog, nice content & lots of great links. It is kind of hard to read though, some of your great ideas & stuff are lost ’cause you have to scroll a lot. You have lots of great stuff here though, will add to my faves or follow if I can do that through your blog.
Have you tried any Japanese patterns yet? Lots of stuff out there on the web & through Ravelry. There are great patterns for crochet or knitting.
Great contest & I can see why you have gotten so many people looking here! Keep up the great blog!!!

  125. Leah Says:

Love the blog, but you should have an RSS Reader so that people can subscribe and get alerts when you post! Thanks for the neat contest.

  126. Val Says:

I wish your tags and possibly related articles would stay with your own blog, rather than going out to the rest of Word Press- but I’m guessing that’s to do with Word Press and not you. Maybe some links that would keep visitors at your blog instead of navigating them away?

  127. Wendy Says:

I like the blog – but I prefer to have something with more pictures – being a visual person 🙂

A challenge to make – I am looking for something that is different. Assymetrical – crocheted or knitted – vest or jumper (preferably), or something that is crochet and knit combined. I also like the thought of a design with a big collar feature.

  128. Jennifer May Says:

    Hello!

You have a lovely blog with a lot of great info (love the deals section). Thank you!!!

    1) As far as a pattern goes- I would really like to see a baby pattern or two. They are great b/c they don’t use up much yarn, knit up quick, and most of the population either have babies or know someone with a baby. Specifically my favorites are baby hats and sweaters- something with a slightly different look but not crazy enough that you would never put your child in it!!! (see ravelry pattern for newborn angle sweater) Also specifically something for boys- many of the cute ones are for girls!! Somethings else great would be a combo yarn- stash buster pattern. More specifically – what to make when you have a small amount of a really expensive, luscious yarn. (example- I bought a tiny amount of quiviut and would LOVE to combine it with these two skeins I have of nice alpaca yarn- but am not quite creative enough to make up a pattern doing so.)

    2) I also agree with the color scheme comments, and editing your banner. I like darker, or more neutral colors. Also one thing I found lacking was pictures. I love when a pic is in the banner, or just below. A pic of you on the home page, or even just of your hands knitting- really makes a blog more personal. Of course pics of the knitting and patterns are more important, but I like to connect with the person I am reading from:-) Also- is there any way that the blog could show up bigger/wide- it comes up as only the middle third of my screen- leaving these gaping holes on the sides. That distracts me quite a bit.

    Good luck and congrats!!!

    Jennifer May

  129. FPWear Says:

I’m liking the content of the blog – practical advice, and nice to see some crochet stuff. But there’s some things about the layout that aren’t working for me. I like the rating system because it ties in with your logo, but I’m not grooving on the banner. If you’re doing the 80’s kitsch thing, that’s cool, but it isn’t really reflected in the rest of the site graphically. I second the sentiment that you have to scroll a lot to get through stuff, but I do like that you have some clear headings, so I know what I should read (or not).
Couldn’t really find your patterns clearly, and I’d like to see some work on the sidebars.
    Hope that’s helpful.

  130. Tracey Says:

I like the content of your blog and the graphics. I really like the ratings of the different magazines.

As for a pattern I’d like to see you make – how about a shawl pattern?

Keep up the great work and congratulations on your milestone!

  131. Katey Says:

I would love to have the pattern for an awesome driving scarf. We just bought a convertible and my hair blows in my eyes, making it impossible to see!

  132. Roma Says:

    1. I love your site. I’ve never visited before and found it interesting. It’s not big and flashy, but I like that – I find flashy distracting. I like that you’ve got tips and patterns for both knit and crochet. I knit like a fiend but have a hard time with crochet so it’s nice to find both on one site.

    2. As far as a pattern, I’d love a tote or bag knitted from plarn. I’ve got a ton of plastic bags and can find great crochet patterns for it but no great knit totes.

  133. Katerina Says:

I’d love to see you make a rectangular crochet wrap/shrug. I’ve been looking for a pretty and lacy one that I can use for the chilly air-conditioned indoors, but not to heavy when I head out to the heat – Love to see what you come up with!

  134. Sarah Says:

    1. I would love to see some kind of knitted shrug with cables or lace…

    2. Love your writting style and your banner at the top of the page!

  135. Mariah Says:

I’d like to see a Fair Isle sweater. And I love the site! It’s new to my blog list.

  136. Amanda Says:

1 – I would love to see a cabled purse complete with instructions on how to line it! I love cabled bags. I love felted bags, too. I just love bags. Is that the least helpful comment yet? 🙂

    2. This is my first visit, and my first impression is that it is very simple – maybe a little too simple? I’d like to see a sidebar with links to previous posts or patterns.

    Thanks!

  137. Serenityslr Says:

    1) Well my mother is constantly asking me for a new shrug so I would like to see one of those, but she is suffering from menopause so there would have to be some specific details like it would have to be light weight probably something very lacy and short sleeves. I have been considering cap sleeves for her because she insists that is has to have sleeves but they need to be nearly non existent. Nothing too long she was thinking about the length of a shrug, but I was thinking of something that could be worn in different ways to give off different looks.

    2) I agree with Amanda about the links. Your design is easy on the eyes which I like. There is nothing worse than viewing a website that the color scheme gives you a headache after viewing it for a few minutes. All in all it’s very easy to navigate and so far the posts have been interesting. I bookmarked it to read later.

  138. Reina Says:

I would love to see a pattern for a hooded sweater suitable for a preschooler, especially a boy! I have a grandson that I have been trying to knit a sweater for and finding patterns for boys that are wearable, fun to knit (meaning texture or colorwork), and easy to care for (my daughter in law does not hand wash anything, lol) has been a challenge.

Love the blog, and congrats on your posts!

  139. Liz Says:

I would love to see a baby bunting pattern, as there just aren’t enough of these out there! With SIDS being known about, and knowing we can prevent it just by not using blankets in the crib and putting our babies down on their backs, I think the sleep sacks/buntings are just great! I used store bought with my children, but would love to see more patterns for knit/crochet ones!

  140. Liz Says:

As for the blog, I do love it! Anytime I can hear more about yarn, Im all for it! Keep it coming girl! And congrats on your 10k mark, I’ve bookmarked ya for future reading!

  141. Wanda Says:

Hi, I would like to see socks made.

I haven’t gone to a lot of blogs, but so am not real knowledgeable about them. After the column on the right is finished, you might extend the width of your left column. That way your blog will be wider and take up less room and take less scrolling to read.

Thank you for the chance to win. Good luck with your overhaul.

  142. mariac0215 Says:

Hi, I would like to see a short sleeve lacy shrugQ

I love your blog. I will continue to read it!

  143. Kelly Says:

    Great site I wouldn’t change a thing:)

  144. Carrie Says:

I’m going to go with the knitting bag/travel bag with pockets. And I like the clean look of your blog!

  145. Brandy Says:

I’d love to see links that you like on the side. And a list of your blog posts off to the side.

As far as patterns I’d like someone to design. I secretly want to knit a pair of top down yoga pants. I see them being like gaucho capri pants. Knit in a silk/wool blend. Kinda crazy huh!!

  146. Jane Says:

Would love to have a vest pattern that would have cap sleeves that go just a bit over the top of the shoulder.

Your blog sight is very nice. Thanks for the opportunity to win the items listed. I ‘felt’ my first malabrigo yarn last evening in a giveaway with our Ravelry gal’s knitting group.

  147. Angela Says:

I’ve been looking everywhere for the perfect short-puff-sleeve cardigan with a scoop neck that isn’t too bulky.
Or I agree with a previous comment – something that would work for larger busts. There aren’t too many patterns that are flattering to larger busts, which is not necessarily the same thing as a plus-size pattern.

  148. Colleen Says:

Wow congrats on the 10,000 hits!

I love making crocheted purses but I really hate having to put so many different pieces together. I would love to see an elegant one piece purse so that beginners like me can make something that looks more complicated than it actually is!

Thanks for taking the time out to read this!

  149. kelseymelissa Says:

    Congrats on the milestones!
    1) I would love to see a pattern for a tunic. Something simple and classic. With a bit of detail, but nothing over-the-top.
    2) I love that you have both knit and crochet tips. You have a very nice blog. Your colour scheme isn’t my cup of tea, but it wouldn’t keep me from visiting your blog.
(I love the little smiley face at the bottom of the page, by the way.)
Thanks for having this wonderful giveaway!
    KelseyMelissa

  150. Anna Says:

I like your blog……the banner is Great to me…..but I do like seeing more pics too……..

I would like to see some cute lacey fingerless mitts, and baby socks.

  151. Sylvia Says:

Hi, first of all, I really like your blog, but I would like to see more color and umph. 🙂

Secondly, as a new knitter, I would love a pattern that features cables, but in a way that won’t be intimidating to me. Really any article would do, as long as it had cables. Thanks!

  152. Anne-Marie Says:

If you were able to design premature baby items, that would be great – especially tiny bootees that would easily stay on!

It’s very good of you to organise this competition – good luck everyone!! 🙂

  153. April Says:

hi there! I love your blog. One thing I really love is the yarn ball rating system you have. It’s so cute! Another thing, I like the banner but think you could use bright colors like that in other places, too.

  154. Kate Says:

Would not change a thing. I especially love your rating system. It just tickles me to see the little balls of yarn. I don’t like lots of color, etc. because it distracts from content.

Thanks for the chance to win. I would love to see you design and knit a lace shawl for the beginner. Not too intimidating!

  155. Suzan Says:

I would like to see some simple crochet patterns for table mats.
I have just been given some very fine cotton and would like to use it without straining my eyes!

I like your giveaway ads and your tips.

  156. Brenda Says:

I think you should make an in between sweater. A little harder than a raglan in the round, but without 30,000 thousand color changes and complicated stitches, so people can ease into more difficult patterns without pulling their hair out!!!!

  157. Cath Says:

One thing I’d love to see is: http://www.cityplug.be/library/place/HE/HEUSYLBI/320_P_R1Z1OZFX.jpg one of these dresses. they’re so cute. Probably you could fancy up them a little bit adding cables and simple things 🙂
I only have one suggestion about your blog. When I see a post I can’t see links, I can’t see nothing and I think it’ll be better if I’d have access to those in the post page. I’m not sure if you know what I mean..

  158. Dawnmc71 Says:

    Congratulations on 10,000 hits!

I think the blog is excellent, but the banner is a bit too large for my screen. Apart from that it is easy to navigate, well done!!

Pattern: I would like to see a summer top, a bit like the lime green one in Knitty this last issue, but that is less fitted under the bust – to cover a multitude of sins! I love that pattern but could not wear it at the moment.

  159. Sade Says:

I’d like to see a knitted lacy beach / pool dress. Like those crochet tunics, but since I can’t crochet, something knitted.

  160. Elizabeth Says:

What a informative site–so glad I found it. I’ll be sure to check back regularly for your lists of deals and bargains.
I haven’t looked through all of your patterns yet, but the cold-drink cozy hit home. I bought a frappucino yesterday (Starbucks had a discount coupon, so I splurged), but all of the ice was gone before I was 1/2way finished. Maybe a cozy would help!
    congrats on so many comments.

  161. Bianca Says:

I would like you to create a lace shawl. Maybe because I have a hard time designing one…

  162. Knitbee Says:

Your site is great is catches the eye but I find it a little hard to navigate. It would be nice if there were side bars so I could just navigate through posts for this month or any given month by title or topic. I love your blog so far, I am going to add you to my blog roll. Feel free to check out my blog at http://www.knitbee.wordpress.com. I have been blogging a shorter time than you have but I am still proud of it. 🙂

  163. Laurel Says:

I’d like to see a design for a child’s size (6-10) top-down pullover sweater, maybe with cables or a design knitted into it. I knit and I’m just STARTING to spin (LOL!) My son keeps asking for a sweater with a car or a truck on it but none of the patterns I’ve shown him have caught his eye yet…..

  164. Anonymous Says:

I’ve been looking for a pattern for this vest. http://farm3.static.flickr.com/2620/3677420255_09eb4a8b6e_m.jpg
If you could do it, I would love you FOREVER!
Congrats on the 10 000 hits. It really is a great achievement. You can’t have that much wrong with your blog then! mx

  165. Ashley Says:

I would love a pattern for a practical sized non-felted purse. Bonus would be if it was tight enough that I still didn’t have to line it afterwards.

  166. Tracy Says:

Sooo… I’d like to see a pattern for KNITTING a fluffy white dog. A bichon to be more specific (if you need inspiration: http://furriefotographie.blogspot.com/search/label/Professor). Every time I find a cute stuffed animal, it turns out to be crochet. I just learned to knit 5 months ago and I’m not ready to learn to crochet too! : )

  167. Tracy Says:

Your blog is fun… and I love the balls of yarn rating system…
If I had to change one thing, and this is funny coming from me since I haven’t done this to my own blog either, I would make your banner logo font different. Maybe make the writing with yarn letters? Or cursivey? Just something that catches your eye… rather than the plain font.

  168. Gundy Says:

Congratulations and thanks for hosting the contest!

  169. Carol Oedekerk Says:

HI, I would like to see a vest pattern in one piece that a beginner to intermediate could do. I spotted on that is done in the round and forms its own collar. I want to make a vest out of alpaca that I can wear over jeans in the winter…kind of casual. Carol

  170. kernowknit Says:

I love your blog and wish I had the courage to do one of my own. I always think “who would be interested” but there are times I would like to tell the world things!

  171. Carol Oedekerk Says:

    Hi
I would also like to see an EASY basic soc pattern that even I could follow or a video that explained the how to. I would really like to try socs but don’t understand the paterns.
    Carol

  172. Leah M Says:

    Hi, found you through Rav.

After poking around here are my entries

    1. For pattern suggestions, I’ve found that knitters and crocheters are constantly looking for that elusive quick, easy, but visually pleasing project that isn’t going to break the bank. Socks, scarves, hats, mittens.

    2. I would like to see a link for your FOs. As a rav member, I can see what you’ve posted there, but if I didn’t have a rav membership and was just poking around your website, I’d like to have a way to quickly review that things you’ve made.

  173. Roz (AmIAKnitterYet) Says:

I have been hunting for a simple lightweight shrug. Basically a tube without cuffs on the arms, open for neck/body area. yarn should be good for summer too. I have a lot of black no sleeve dresses and want some added warmth without taking away from the dress.

And actually, I like the simple look of your blog. Well maybe I would have the font increase just a bit to make it a little easier on the eye–then again I am approaching 46 and apparently reading glasses are quickly appearing in my future.

  174. adleisia Says:

    Congratulations!!

I’m always a fan of quick one-skein knits… and the skeins you have on your giveaway look like they could handle a small project. maybe a fun lace-inspired arm warmer. Those pinks and reds are just begging to be put on someone’s arms!

  175. Lithia Black Says:

I’ve been looking around for a camisole and hotpants or short bloomers with an allover lace pattern for ages. Think old style underwear as in the book a stitch in time or earlier.
t is a bit wrong season for this right now (summer and hot hot hot in Sweden) But since the winters get really cold I would love a pattern like that

    /L

  176. Char Says:

    Hi,

I would get rid of the grey bars on the sides of the page or at least widen what you do have so they are not so prominent.

A pattern I would like to see is a knitted skirt with a fun textured stitch.

    ~ mayerlove on ravelry

  177. Rini Says:

    1. I would like to see more patterns for making things for men – every year I struggle to find good things to knit the guys in my family (you can only do scarves/hats so many times).

    2. I like your blog – it’s very nicely put together.

    thanks
    Rini

  178. Ginny Says:

I would like to see knitting patterns for socks, hats, scarves ~ something easy, quick and portable. Also, sock patterns that incorporate the Magic Loop method. I love to be able to take my projects with me while riding in the car, waiting at the doctor’s office or on my lunch break at work.

I would tone down your heading ~ how about sage green and lavender?

  179. Kathryn (TosaGirl) Says:

It would be nice for the menu sidebar thing (where you have the calander, archives, categories, etc) stayed at the top of the screen even when you scrolled down through the post. Hope that makes sense. It makes it easier to move around the site.

  180. Kathryn (TosaGirl) Says:

I forgot to add: a nice baby boy pattern. There is so much stuff for little girls and I have two friends with baby boys. I usually think the unisex stuff is more girly than unisex. A cute sweater for a new baby that more special than a generic cardigan.

  181. Robyn (robynbobm) Says:

I’d love to see a crochet sock pattern that uses really pretty stitches, so that the knitters will have to stop dissing crocheted socks. 🙂

  182. Beth Eddowes Says:

Wraps seem to be very in style right now – the challenge would be for it to be easyto make, but look intricate, and not make me look fatter.

  183. Karen Byers Says:

I would like to see a long vest pattern that uses entrelac technique with really easy-to-follow directions. I can find all sorts of theoretical, not-so-easy entrelac general directions, but they are not in patterns. OR a pattern assumes one should already know entrelac and just go ahead and incorporate it. I think a solid front, maybe left and right as different colors, and then the back side entrelac in both those colors?

  184. Janet Martin Says:

I like the simple clean appearance of your blog. When sites get too fancy, they can be difficult to read. I also like your content–links to sales and freebies, tips and instructions, reviews, ang the photos that don’t take up much space and can be enlarged. Chatter is nice, too, but I put your blog in my favorites because of it’s solid and well written content.

Love your turtle–can you design a little mouse? Given my usual “handle” (janmaus), I’m forever making and collecting mice.

  185. Gayle Says:

I live in a very hot climate, so am always looking for something like a nice summer top. There are tons of patterns for cool weather items in wool but they won’t work here. So I would like a not so basic T-shirt in another fiber. Something a little different or on the edge.

  186. Charlene Says:

I really like your blog – it’s nicely put together and I enjoy the information you share and how it’s presented. It would be easier if the links, calander, twitter info that are in the side bar began up at the top. I’m not sure if it’s an easy change or feasible but it would make it easier to navigate.

I must say I love the turtle and the other projects you’ve posted , but I would love to see a simple sock pattern shared.

  187. mizkathychin Says:

Great idea for a contest! My thought on your site is that I like it 🙂 My constructive thought came to me when I tried to find your patterns so I could suggest a new one. I couldn’t find a link on the sidebar to your work – so there it is, we need a link to a list of your projects!

  188. Julie R Says:

    1) I would love to see a one-skein triangluar shawl pattern, easy for beginners yet elegant and beautiful. I know they must exist but since that’s what I want to knit next, that’s what I’d like to see. 🙂

    2) I only just discovered your site so I can’t think of a thing that I dislike, I’m impressed. Off to go read more.

  189. knittingladybird Says:

just saying I might be post 190!!!!

I’d like to see a pattern for a fitted cardigan (sweater in US) that does not have a ‘forties waist’ but a more tailored look…..

  190. Kim Says:

    Hi there,
I’m not sure how adept you are at doing socks (I’m not so much) but I’ve heard of making socks that are both crocheted and knit. Something like you crochet the heel and toe (parts that wear more) and knit the rest. It’s something I would love to try but would need a pattern for guidance.

  191. Sheri Says:

I would love to see a cardiwrap. I am looking everywhere for a good one. Something with just arms and the rest you wrap around yourself!

  192. Barbara @ the Jersey Shore Says:

I’m in LOVE with knitting socks and would love to do some pretty, lacy, girly socks. Could you develop a pattern for lacy/girly socks for me?

    Blessings!

  193. Kath Says:

    Site critique:
I am not a big fan of the gray background.

  194. Kath Says:

    Pattern Idea:
I have a hard time finding toddler sock patterns. There are plenty for babies and adults but hardly any in between.

  195. sandy Says:

I like the book and mag reviews, but would like more of them.

I would also like to see a pattern for a simple tank top; suitable for hot, humid weather.

  196. Sara Says:

I am a big fan of the theme-of-the-day posts. Good organization for your loyal readers. I am not a personal fan of the colors in your header, but, it’s YOUR header, do what you like!

I’d love to see sock patterns that are designed for variegated yarn. I always think that these are really fantastic patterns, and I’d love to have more to choose from!

  197. Martha Smith Says:

How about a falling leaves scarf — I have made one with verigated yarn and it is funky!

  198. vera vashon Says:

I’d like you to make a the knitted characters from “Hitchhiker’s Guide to theGalaxy”! That would be very cool….I’d buy the pattern!

  199. jan Says:

Well, somehting I noticed about this blog is there are only two links to the other archives. I can’t figure out how to navigate through the pages without going through them all. Maybe a navi bar?
[Don’t know anything about site building so ignore me if this point is stupid or impossible ^_^; ]

  200. Mary Says:

Fabulous prizes! I love that you blog about BOTH knitting and crochet. I love to see a lot of pictures as well as links to patterns.

  201. Milly Suazo-Martinez Says:

    Hi there!

So far I have liked your blog and agree with some of the suggestions for the formatting (navigation bar, background color, for example)

Thanks for having this contest and I will certainly come back!

For what it’s worth, I am a professional Spanish translator and if you ever need/want/have a request to translate a pattern, let me know.

    Milly

  202. Milly Suazo-Martinez Says:

Ooops forgot to tell you about patterns:

I am an avid lace knitter, so ANYTHING in lace would be a welcome addition to my collection of patterns.

    Milly

  203. marci Says:

    1) I am a new reader of this blog, and I will be following it now!
    2) I’d love to see a shawl pattern using sock yarn.

  204. Danielle Says:

I haven’t read all the comments but I would love to see a pair of lacey knee-high (or taller!) socks!

  205. Alisa Says:

What I like most is that you have excellent content for both crochet and knitting. Since I’m a bit crazy with all types of fiber projects, I enjoy reading tips, patterns etc for both.

I also think your layout is clean and inviting. No need to distract from content.. after all isn’t that what blogging is about? You have a good use of balance between text and pictures without overload.

All the best with your blog!

  206. woolstock Says:

    First question:
I love making socks but I’m not a fan of the yarn over. I’m not sure why but it just doesn’t thrill me. So, that eliminates lots and lots of sock patterns. Can you make a great sock pattern without yarn overs?

  207. woolstock Says:

    Second question:
My feedback for your blog is to do what you are doing. Keep running an occasional contest. Although I have never won I think they are fun. I also like photos in blogs.

  208. jv3 Says:

I would love to see some crochet patterns for young boys clothing, etc. I want to start making things for my almost 4 year old (but is very tall for his age) and having a hard time finding things I think would fit him. Congratulations on your blog!!!!

  209. Crys Says:

    1. I would love to see a pattern for a simple rectangular shawl that a beginner could do. Something appropriate to cover up shoulders when wearing a fancy strapless dress, light but without complicated lace.

    2. I think your blog is wonderful! The only thing I might change is the banner at the top – smaller, different color scheme, or both. The content is great, though, so I wouldn’t change a thing there!

  210. sallyinwales Says:

The only suggestion I can make for a small tweak to the blog is that the header isnt even at the moment, Hook goes right to the left hand edge of the margin, whilst the right hand side has lots of clear space. I think it would look more slick if you just centred the text and logo.
Otherwise, its all great, keep up the good work!

As for patterns, its always good to see things that are both fun and practical, what about taking eth concept of yoru technicolour shrug and working it into a modular colour graded shrug, so nice easy sections for beginners, but adds up to a more complex design that is really eye catching.

  211. HelenKathleen Says:

Love the blog! I am always looking for new bag patterns.

  212. KayaR Says:

yay! I is leaving me comment:

    1. pattern I would like to see . . . A doll or other stuffed animal that comes with several different outfits. I have seen plenty of dolls and some clothes but never do they match! please help me. my daughter loves to dress her toys but we are desperately in need of good patterns! thanx ^__^

  213. billie gordon Says:

I like your posting on Weekend Deals, Steals and Giveways. The last child’s cardigan sweater I made was a mess so I’d like to see a pattern for basic child’s cartigan.

  214. Cori Says:

I love how you review magazines when they come out. It’s great because, since I don’t yet have a subscription to any magazines, I can avoid a trip to the book store if the magazine doesn’t look like it’s worth it.

If I was going to change anything about your blog, I would move the search bar to the top of your side bar.

  215. Pam Says:

A pattern I would like to see is a tank top with a cable top and long easy flowing bottom reaching to the waist. Something that not only can you wear it casual with jeans but can also dress it up for work.

Congratulations on 10,000 hits. Right now I don’t see anything wrong with your site. My problem has always been user error so any criticism from me is not worth listening too.

    Keep up the good work.

  216. oonagh rabenwald Says:

the site looks good……….colorful banner, easy contrast background with the type……….

saw this on rav, will hafta start reading you!!

leaving a pattern comment separately, for those two entries……..

  217. oonagh rabenwald Says:

about patterns………….would love to see some simple yet pretty shawls, in all weights.

i also like bags, and fingerless gloves……….

good luck, the prize package is beautiful!! so generous!!

    -oonaghfibersmyth on ravelry

  218. laceandcables on ravelry Says:

I like the top of your page (logo/header/banner?) It made me smile when I read it. If you end up changing the design, please keep the text.

  219. pat Says:

I would like to see links along the sides of the page that are grouped by subject….so if I want to read more of your great book reviews, I could easily find them.

will leave another comment for the 2 entries…

  220. pat Says:

Also, as far as offering more patterns….I’m looking for a well-written plain mitten pattern – in multiple sizes and mutiple weights of yarn. I’ve looked on Ravelry, and there just isn’t much available.

I also like the quilt block ravatars that are part of the comments section. Very creative!

  221. Paula Says:

I would love to see a hat pattern for an elementary age (5-11 year old) boy. It is so hard to find a nice boy pattern and I think that more time needs to be spent on them 😉

  222. Beverly Says:

I’d love to see a shoulderette type of shawl – something triangular and small, to drape around the neck and rest on the shoulders but not flop all over the place. I’ve just been looking around your blog and love it!

  223. moosmutzel81 Says:

Actually I am looking for a nice, slightly lacy, knitted baby blanket that is pretty on both sides. Something that is not to complicated and can be finished in a reasonable amount of time.

  224. Beth Says:

I wish for a pattern for a sweater knitted side to side, so any patterns or stripes would run vertical, not horizontal. I’ve seem a few of these, and they seem so flattering.

  225. Hzibura Says:

I have started taking belly dancing lessons for exercise and would love a pattern to make the lacey belly scarves we wear. What a great idea to have input to your site!
    Good Luck to you.

  226. Susan (Slierisa on Ravelry) Says:

    Congrats on the hits!

Your blog is great — I especially enjoy your magazine reviews, since I always want to pick them up when I see them on the stands but somehow always end up grabbing the worst one possible…so you’ve made my life a little easier! thanks!

As for a pattern, what I’ve really been looking for and can’t find is a good lace pattern for a hooded cape. I’ve tried a couple mock-ups myself, but I always get stuck on the hood part :p. So that would be my vote. That or a little knitted (or crocheted) chipmunk.

  227. Cathy Says:

I love your crochet tortoise pattern, and would love to see more fun toy patterns like that!

  228. Nyree20 Says:

I wanna see some open work socks!!

  229. Tasha Says:

I would like to see a pattern for a toque for men. Heck, anything for a man, but especially a toque that is not just k2 p2 and then decrease.

  230. purlybee Says:

Wonderful accomplishment on the 10K hits! I would like to see a summer weight shoulder type shawl. Great blog. Very informative. Thanks

  231. Livia Says:

Conratulations on 10,000 hits!!!! I would like to see a pattern for a scoopneck sweater with bell sleeves; call me a hippie or what you will; but I absolutely love bell sleeves! Thanks for all your hardwork.

  232. Rachel Says:

I love your blog – how practical!

design ideas – I’ve yet to find a really flattering empire waist sweater in knit – and I’ve looked! Something with long or short sleeve options would be great! Here are some link (picture) ideas of what I”m talking about…. (although the one is fairly low in the front, so maybe not quite that low…. lol)

as for your blog… it’s lovely – maybe jazz it up with some fun colours to make it more eye appealing – I’m a VISUAL girl, so the white on gray is a bit….. um… boring? I’m sure the new program will help you with that, though!

    🙂

  233. Donna Says:

I’d also like to see more of the knitted toys. Congratulations on the 10,000 hits!!! That’s huge for such a short amount of time….

  234. Rachel (again) Says:

Oh, I SOOO agree with Livia! I love the look of bell sleeves!

  235. joyce landry Says:

Hip length swing jacket with a tight weave to it. A little belt at the back. Congrads!

  236. Stephanie P Says:

I like your blog fine the way it is! I also have a WordPress blog (for school, not for knitting) and I love the way the site facilitates the set up. No need to change as far as I am concerned!

As far as patterns go, I want to learn to do cables but I am intimidated by them! I want to make more than a cabled dishcloth, but at the same time do not want to pick too advanced of a pattern. I want to practice cables, not a complicated pattern. I think a cabled purse or bag would be a great pattern to work on. There is nothing too fancy like heel or thumb gussets, you could easily incorporate a cable and it is functional!

  237. inkeri Says:

I would like to see socks, lace socks for summer.

  238. SharonO Says:

Hi, you have a lovely site and I love the review of the Color Knitting Techniques. The one thing that I think might make things easier for a visitor is if there were some links to entries and topics along the sides.

One pattern I would love to see is a nice shrug with 3/4 length sleeves and comes over to a bit of an overlap in front. Something pretty that would help keep one warm in the winter so that you can save on heat. The ones I have seen are tiny things with short sleeves.

I will come back to visit and I look forward to seeing any patterns you design., but I must confess that I would love to win, too.

  239. Janice Says:

Fun! I like the tortoise pattern and would like to see more critter patterns like it.

Something I’d like to see on your blog is a list of the titles of the last X posts in your RH nav. It would make it easier to jump to a recent post.

Thanks for the contest and keep those tips coming!

  240. AmyFH Says:

HI, I’d love to see links to get back to the home page. I navigated to a page and could not get back easily. Also I’d love to see a patten for a self-fringing shawl (knit) that can be made with many different yarns.

  241. arly Says:

Hello, Keep the banner, it represents you, is an attention getter that one remembers. I think a shawl would be great for you to make. Bright and cheerie that will not be folded in the drawer for an “occaion” but to be grabbed and worn for the moment to shop or just to take the chill off for a stroll. Arly

  242. Dee Says:

    1) I really like the blog’s layout and the way things are placed, I would not change anything except the banner size it seems really tall.

    2) I have been trying to come up with a bag that can transport my laptop and my projects, knitting notions. I like to knit at the coffee spot and watch videos and catch up on reading blogs, but I need a cool bag to transport everything. I was wanting a big outer pocket part for the laptop and was thinking felted. 😀

  243. Nora Says:

I love your banner!! I’d love to see a pattern for a triangle shawl in lace weight or sock yarn weight with a nice easy lacey pattern. I love making shawls but the patterns are either too easy (all garter) or too complicated for me. How’s that for an impossible challenge? LOL Thanks for running a generous contest and congrats on your anniversary!!

  244. Dehbi Says:

I would like to see what you might do with geometric shapes and some sort of cocoon design. I like things with unusual construction and it would be interesting to see something with an origami theme: basic shapes, easy to make, but stylish.

The only thing I would change would be the colors. The green and purple are pretty and work well together., but on the pastel blue background it just does not make for an eye-catching effect, and does not really reflect the great energy of your blog!

I like that your blog is so well organized and easy to navigate. Good content choices, too.

Congrats on reaching that milestone with visitors to your site!

  245. inkdarkmoon Says:

My first comment–on your site–I would like to see a bit of the margin space utilized, perhaps for links to earlier posts and patterns.

  246. inkdarkmoon Says:

My second comment–I would like a pattern for a shaped shawl–the kind of shawl that is fitted to the shoulders and almost looks like a sweater at first glance, and it won’t tend to slip off. Maybe with arm slits.

  247. Amy Says:

I would love to see a cabled cardi for girls. I’ve been looking for one to knit for my daughter and haven’t found one I love enough to knit yet.

/i wouldn’t change anything on your blog. 🙂

  248. MsFeasance Says:

I absolutely adore your blog design–I might make it a wee bit wider, but then again, people with less wide monitors might not be so appreciative.

As far as what I’d love to see you design? There are not nearly enough well-written sock patterns for men.

  249. Mandy Says:

This is probably a long shot, but I would love to see a project bag for stranded color knitting. Something that would keep the yarns contained, with holes in the outside of the bag for each of the yarns to come out and hopefully remain tangle-free. Like I said, probably more of a pipe dream than anything, but a girl can hope!

The only change I would make is to brighten up the background a bit. Maybe make it the same color as the yarn ball in your header?

    Congrats on 10k!

  250. Shy Says:

Thank you for posting about your blog. I am always looking for interesting sites, and I like yours a lot! Consider yourself bookmarked ❤

As for tips: I like how clean your site is, and the easy navigation. It seems a little stark and impersonal to me, the main grey background is cold. I like the idea of the header too, but as others have said, seems a little cartoony. All-in-all, it is nice… just needs that little extra push to make it look more professional and polished. It's so close!
However, it is hard to tell which links are "yours" and which lead elsewhere without clicking on them. Putting the search near the top and keeping your personal links grouped near the top of that column will help with that. non-personal sites have "second" priority and can be placed lower in the column.

Again, thanks for posting the site. I look forward to reading more!

  251. Sara Says:

Thanks for the give-away. After looking at your blog I would have to say that my one recommendation for improvement would be to make it easier to navigate and to see subjects of interest. The style is very nice, but it is so spartan that it is hard to find your way around. I like the clean look, but maybe it is too clean to be as useful as it could be.

As for the pattern I would like to see…. I suppose what I have been looking for unsuccessfully on Ravelry and everywhere else is a worsted weight cardigan that is fitted for women with or without curves (in a wide variety of sizes), flattering and not too frufru. I am so tired of boxy, drop shouldered sweaters, with square bodies, a little fitting would be great.

  252. KharmicCurse Says:

I would love to see a pretty, non-frumpy shrug or cardigan for Plus Sizes (or just sized up to 4x) that isn’t a super-easy “mesh”. I like cute outfit toppers too, dear designing world! The recent surge of popularity in mini cardis and short sleeve shrugs has left me jealous and sad I can’t do the math to convert.

  253. Anna Says:

what i like about your blog is how clean the interface is–i don’t have to squint through all kinds of web 2.0 crap to get to the good stuff: you talking about knitting! if you revamp the layout, keep it simple while adding a little sophistication (header image, or drop-down menus, etc.)

    thanks for doing the giveaway!

  254. Courtney Says:

I’d like to see a plus sized sleeveless cardigan with a cable and seed stitch design.

  255. Huncut Says:

The only thing I’d change is the sidebar I’d make the categories after the last 5 posts and before the Twitter and maybe make the sides green or purple to match the banner, nothing too crazy though.

As for what I’d like designed, a caplet maybe cabled, with loose sleeves and buttons (medium big ones) all the way down the center. Something like that with either a collar or just a cable running around the neckline.

  256. Jenni James Says:

    HI,

I really like your site and I like the colors. I am not good with web sites so I can’t tell you what doesn’t belong or work, LOL, I can say that it was nice to read and didn’t make me want to click somewhere else.

As for a pattern I would love to see a sweater that is just wild for a little girl, 7 year old, with fun and funky cables!

I love the long sleeve shrug idea. I was just thinking this morning about how I would love to knit one.

As for what I like or don’t like about the site… well, I’m not a fan of green and purple together. (Bad childhood experience!) But otherwise, it is a super blog!

    Thanks for the super giveaway!

Hi and congrats on your hits!

I would like to see a change in your color scheme. The green, purple, and windows-default pale blue just say here is a creative person who is sharing wonderful free pattterns, reviews, ideas, etc.

I would love to see a plus size top, made for extended sizes, with 3/4 sleeves in a swingy pattern! Made in something glorious and kinda lightweight with maybe jewel tone colors, eye popping ones! with a scoop neck, maybe empire waist, babydoll type…..

OH, you do the Hook and Needle Gal, you toss the yarn around that’s what it’s all about!! Hey sometimes you can’t reign yourself in. I’d like to see these sites have a search so that when I want to find something you said months ago, I don’t have to look so hard to find it. And I love one that plays serene or upbeat music in the background.

What a fab site! First time I’ve seen it and it looks very friendly and quite easy to navigate. I don’t feel I can comment on any pattern as I’ve only just had a quick look to see what you’ve got. Love the colours, by the way!

ohhh pretty yarn!! And I’ve just got sucked into knitting socks (and none of my sock yarn has been all the good. Silly small towns)

  263. bFlat Says:

Congrats! The only thing I would change would be more color to your site, give it some character.

  264. bFlat Says:

I would love to see a pattern for some really fun patterned mittens, not the traditional one color ones.

I like your blog and want some crochet and knitting socks and slippers patterns.
